Our Promise

Every healthy lawn starts underground.

A professional soil test reveals the balance of nutrients, organic matter, and pH that drive your turf’s performance and resilience. Without this data, even the best fertilizer programs are based on guesswork—especially in the Tulsa area, where native clay profiles, fill dirt, and construction compaction create wide variation from one property to the next. Newell Services handles every step—from proper sampling and accredited lab submission to professional interpretation and a clear results summary. The outcome isn’t just a report of numbers, but a targeted action plan that turns complex soil data into straightforward, locally relevant recommendations for stronger, greener turf that responds predictably season after season.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Soil Testing in Tulsa

Find answers to common questions about our soil testing service.

Question

What will I gain from a soil test?

You’ll know exactly what your soil has and what it’s missing. Each report measures pH, organic matter, nutrient balance (P, K, Ca, Mg, Na), salinity, and cation exchange capacity—the key indicators of soil fertility. These results pinpoint why certain lawns struggle and reveal the most cost-effective path to long-term health.

Question

Why do test results matter?

Without accurate data, most lawn programs rely on generic assumptions. Tulsa soils can vary widely—even between houses on the same street. Test results eliminate guesswork, allowing us to adjust rates, product types, and timing to match your soil’s actual needs. The result: healthier turf, less waste, and fewer unnecessary applications.

Question

When is the best time to take soil samples?

Soil tests can be performed year-round, but the ideal window is late fall through early spring, before the main growing season. This allows time to correct nutrient or pH imbalances before summer stress. Avoid testing right after fertilizer or lime applications, as those can skew results.

Question

Do I gather samples or will you?

Newell Services performs all sampling as part of the service. We collect 4–8 cores per test area at the proper depth (3–4 inches for turfgrass) using clean, professional equipment to prevent contamination. Each test represents up to 10,000 sq ft of lawn area, ensuring results that accurately reflect your soil’s condition.

Question

Why is your lab result better than what I can get from the OSU Extension office?

The OSU Extension SWFAL program provides excellent general agronomic testing—commonly used for row crops, gardens, and forage soils. Our partner laboratory, by contrast, offers a turf- and ornamental-specific analysis with higher precision, measuring organic matter %, soluble salts, CEC, and base saturation in greater detail. What sets our process apart is how those results are interpreted and applied locally. Using my experience with Oklahoma’s diverse soils and transitional climate zone, I translate raw lab data into an actionable plan suited for all turf types commonly grown in the Tulsa area—from fescue and bermuda to blended residential lawns.
